The Hoppy Award
This title of distinction is given to a St. Barnabas employee demonstrating the work ethic and dedication of its namesake, Ralph L. Blessley (1918-1984). So touched by the care received as a patient of St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Mr. Blessley returned as its first director of maintenance.
Positive, inspiring and hardworking, he tended to his duties despite a physical impairment. Born with one leg shorter than the other, he never missed a step serving the patients and St. Barnabas brothers who affectionately called him “Hoppy”. The Hoppy Award is presented by president William V. Day at the annual Employee Recognition Event. There, the Hoppy Awardee is applauded by St. Barnabas officers, administrators and employees of all the facilities and takes a seat honor among previous winners.
