Special People Fund

We Share Because We Care

Enables you to contribute directly to free care, equipment and campus-wide renovations benefiting the patients of St. Barnabas. This employee-exclusive giving program started in 1985 and has paid for more than $467,644 in upgrades to safety systems, common areas and patient rooms and to charity care for impoverished men and women, many who have been turned away by other facilities. Each year St. Barnabas employees dedicate a portion of their earnings to support this fund — special people helping special people. This example of selfless giving by the staff of caretakers on behalf of the patients they serve inspires donors across the nation to contribute even more to St. Barnabas Charities. Special People Fund in the Greater Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Area

This employee-only giving program provides crucial upgrades to St. Barnabas communities and care services around the Greater Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. Learn about the impacts our employees make through our Special People fund, and if you work at St. Barnabas, we encourage you to take advantage of this philanthropic opportunity.

What Is the Special People Fund?

St. Barnabas is one of Pennsylvania’s largest healthcare systems and has been serving aging adults in the Greater Pittsburgh area for more than 120 years. Since we were established in 1900, charitable contributions and donations have been a vital pillar in our mission to provide comprehensive care to our residents – regardless of their financial situation. Expanding on our legacy, St. Barnabas continues to reach out to people in need around our area and encourages others to get involved and give back, including our employees.

That is why we created the Special People Fund, an employee-exclusive giving program that allows any employee of St. Barnabas to contribute directly to free care, equipment, and campus-wide renovations for patients of St. Barnabas. This program began in 1985 and has provided more than $450,000 for upgrades to safety systems, common areas, and patient rooms, as well as care services for residents who otherwise could not afford them. At St. Barnabas, our employees “share because they care” by either dedicating a portion of their earnings to support this fund or making a one-time donation.

Donation Options

The reason that St. Barnabas has enjoyed success in Western Pennsylvania for so many years – besides our reputation for providing high-quality care and services – is because of the generosity of our community. We depend on donations now more than ever, as funding for nursing and rehabilitative care has been cut through different legislative changes.

Our Special People Fund offers St. Barnabas employees multiple ways to donate, and donations can even be directed to the Free Care Fund or God Bless Fund. Employees can pledge a dollar amount that is automatically deducted from each paycheck or give a one-time donation by:

  • Completing and returning a donation card
  • Mailing a check, payable to St. Barnabas Charities, or cash donation
  • Giving online via credit card

Enrollment is easy and takes less than three minutes. St. Barnabas Charities is a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization, and your annual giving total can be listed as a tax deduction.
