About Rudy Giuliani

The 2017 Hance honoree, Rudy Giuliani, was elected Mayor of the City of New York in 1993. Campaigning on the slogan, "One City, One Standard," he focused on reducing crime, reforming welfare and improving the quality of life. In 1997, he was re-elected with 57 percent of the vote in a city in which Democrats outnumbered Republicans five to one.

A graduate of New York University School of Law, he was appointed in 1981 by President Ronald Reagan as Associate Attorney General, the third highest position in the U.S. Department of Justice. He then became the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, where he prosecuted organized crime, drug dealers, white collar criminals and corruption among elected officials.
